Meteo 532 – Atmospheric Chemistry
Mid-term Open-book Exam
Assigned:
Monday, 20 October 2003
Due:
Friday, 31 October 2003
I looked at all the previous exams that I have given
in the 8 times that I have taught this class.
The previous take-home exams look a lot like the homework sets that I
have been giving you. So, instead of
giving you an exam that looks like a problem set, I have decided to give you a
completely different type of exam for the midterm. If it works, I will probably do the same for
the final.
Explain each of the following concepts and processes
in 250 words or less. Using
your own words, emphasize the aspects that you think are most important. Be
as thorough as possible, but do not exceed the 250-word limit; you could lose
points. You can use equations and figures, but you must also provide a written
explanation. An equations counts as a word
but a figure does not. (Note: This page has slightly more than two hundred
words on it.)
1. Effects of
meteorology on atmospheric chemistry
2. Photolysis
3. The theory
of bimolecular reactions
4. The theory
of termolecular reactions
5.
Heterogeneous processes
6. The NOx photostationary
state, HOx-NOx photochemistry,
and ozone production
