Splitter/Mixer Blocks

The Splitter/Mixer blocks simulate the operation of splitting or mixing of streams.  The input form can be accessed by clicking on the block and selecting SPLITTER in the Block Type field.  Mixing is simulated by defining a single product stream and no parameters.

Block Name

SPLITTER block can have names containing a maximum of ten characters.  The block name must be unique to the flowsheet.

Products

A SPLITTER can have a maximum of nine product streams.  Define a single product stream to perform mixing operations.

Parameters

The number of parameters depends on the number of product streams and is one less than the number of products.  For example, a stream split into three requires the user supply two parameters.  The possible options include split fraction, Fracn, or the flow rate of the output streams, RateVn (or RateWn).  Users are permitted to use either Fracn or RateVn (or RateWn) and cannot use a combination of Fracn and RateVn (RateWn) specifications.

No parameters are required for mixing operations.

Fracn.  Fracn is the split fraction of the total feed sent to a particular product stream.  Fracn specifications must be entered for all output streams less one.  An initial estimate, and minimum and maximum bounds must be entered if the user intends to Optimize the split.

RateVn.  RateVn is the volume rate specification for a particular product stream.  If the RateVn specifications are not met, the total feed is distributed between output streams in the order entered until material is exhausted.  The RateVn feature can be used to define the capacity for a downstream block.  Other rules for usage are similar to Fracn.

RateWn.  RateWn is the weight rate specification for a particular product stream.  Other rules for usage are similar to RateVn.
