1st Meeting
Team #2 held a meeting on 18 February 1999 at 2:30 in Pollock Commons
Members in attendance: Kamal Aboul-Hosn (designated group leader)
NiKeeya James (writing one-page paper due on Mon.)
Karan Samtani
Topic: Aluminum
The discussion in this meeting dealt mainly with the division of labor
for
the group presentation and paper. Since Kamal and NiKeeya know
how to do
web page design and will be responsible for most of the page, they
will
have slightly less individual research to do. At the same time,
Karan
wishes to learn HTML through the team's web page.
Division of labor: Nikeeya - Historical perspective
Kamal - Mineral reserves and production statistics
Koran - Mineral deposits and mining practices,
Mineral processing methods
Entire Team - Economic, Social, Environmental significance
Conclusions
Plans for future meetings:
Future meetings will include proofreading of all sections of
the paper by
all members of the team, discussion/design of the web page (which could
be
held in the computer lab), and sharing of resources found on Aluminum.
Whenever members find any resources regarding the topic, they are to
email
them to the entire team, particularly if they are useful to other members.
Next Meeting: 25 February 1999 at 2:30pm
For next week, all members are to find resources and bring them
to share
with the rest of the team and bring ideas for the web page.
2nd Meeting
Group Project Report
Team III
Subject: Aluminum
Members: Nikeeya, Karan, and, Kamal
Last Thursday Group three met for the second time to further discuss
our research tactics and ideas for our web page and the how we were going
to structure our final paper in terms of work loads. Everything basically
stayed the same except that Kamal will be researching the Economic/Social/Environmental
significance of the resource. This was just a minor adjustment in
the duties of each member of the group.
We also decided that since I was doing the first part of the
paper that I would do the introduction because it would be easier and leading
into the historical perspective of aluminum. Our conclusion will
be quite interesting because as a group we have decided that each of us
will relate the mineral to our respected fields of study and relate its
many uses and future implications.
Finally, our web page design has begun, we discussed the format
and decided that we will most likely be using a frame setup. I will
be starting on coding the links section and probably will be doing more
extensive work on the web page over spring break. When we return
we will be meeting in the computer lab to look at the progress and Karan
and Kamal will be working on other aspects of the webpage.
The copper group met on Thursday,
February 18, 1999, at 6:00 pm.
---- Everyone was present
---- Sonny was the group
leader, and David was the recorder
We discussed what format
our group project would take, specifically
a detailed use of a poster, and overheads, as opposed to power point.
It
was suggested that each member should focus on their core competencies
(ie.
their majors), and focus on the project in that light.
We also discussed the use
of references, and it was suggested that
we use the US Geological survey as key reference, for statistics and
other
mining information. We also have decided to use Encyclopedia's
such as
Britannica, to give basic information on copper Journal and
Newspaper
articles may also provide a good source of information for this assignment,
and thus we will attempt to discover appropriate articles, through
the use
of Lias and other web based resources.
The next meeting has been
scheduled for the first week of March, a
definitive time and day will be determined in class, due to everyone's
uncertain schedules. At this next meeting, we have determined
that each
group member will bring in two possible rescource articles and any
other
relevant information that we can find.
We also discussed a tentative
schedule for the subsequent meetings,
basically the time frame that we want this project to encompass, however,
we
were not able to set a completely formal schedule for events as of
yet.
The meeting ended at 6:40 pm.
David Bernstein
We had a meeting on Wednesday the 24th at 9:30. All of us attended (Mike
Turzo,
Tim Baskerville, and I). We decided that we are going to do a website
for our
project. Also, we're dividing up the research.Mike is going to research
historical perspective in production and use of the mineral resource
and
mineral reserves and production statistics (for the last 10-40 years).
I'm
going to research mineral deposits and mining practices and mineral
processing methods. Tim is going to research the
economic/social/environmental significance of the resource. That is
basically what we decided at the first meeting. We are going to have
our
next meeting some time after Spring Break (we're not sure of the exact
day).
Thank-you,
Kathryn Campbell
