Color Plate 15.A

Color Plate 15.A. The probability of the occurrence of various temperature extremes
during meteorological winter (December through February) across the United States
during a La Nina. Yellow, orange and red, in that order, indicate an increasing risk
of higher-than-average temperatures, while blues and purples are used to indicate areas
with a greater-than-average risk of below-average temperatures. Similar maps can be
produced for precipitation extremes (see Color Plate 15.D) - for those, shades of green
are used for wet extremes, while yellow, orange and red are used for dry extremes
(courtesy of Climate Diagnostics Center).
