Leading informal discussions

The informal discussions usually last at least 15 minutes. The use of prepared visuals, outlines, explanations is strongly encouraged. You may use the scanners in the Computer Lab for scanning in graphs, photos, etc., for use in both class and your reports. Learning to use scanners properly is sometimes difficult, so don't jam deadlines! In addition, class members are expected to participate in the discussion by asking questions, making suggestions, etc., and shaking their heads in bewilderment. Bring two disks with your visuals and other material to class; floppy disks can crash at any time. Some years ago, class was delayed about 20 minutes until we could recover the needed files from a floppy disk that went up in flames when it was inserted into the classroom computer. Zip disks are recommended; they appear to be more stable, and some of your files may become large enough (because of the graphics) that you will need the space. Depending upon the computer, CD-ROMs may be an alternative. It may also be possible to download files via the internet.
