Tropical cyclones bring together many other aspects of meteorology. Both boundary layer and mesoscale convection play a role in their genesis and intensification. Radar meteorology is a key element of their tracking and artificial intelligence plays an increasing role in their prediction. At landfall even mountain meteorology becomes important to tropical cyclone prediction. Putting these pieces together to understand and predict their number, path, and intensity poses a considerable challenge.
