Dr. Long-Qing Chen
Donald W. Hamer Professor
- MATSE 503 - "Kinetics of Materials Processes" (Graduate course offered every spring) This course presents an advanced treatment of diffusion in solids, chemical kinetics, kinetics of phase transformations, and solid-gas reactions.
- MATSE 401 - "Thermodynamics of Materials" (Undergraduate course offered every fall) This course treats the basics of Gibbs thermodynamics with an emphasis on its application to metallurgical and ceramic systems. It covers basic laws of thermodynamics, thermodynamics of solid solutions, phase diagrams, electrochemistry, chemical reactions involving both solids and fluids, and elementary statistical thermodynamics.
- MATSE 503 - "Kinetics of Materials Processes" (Graduate course offered every spring) This course presents an advanced treatment of diffusion in solids, chemical kinetics, kinetics of phase transformations, and solid-gas reactions.
- MATSE 581 - "Computational Materials Science at the Mesoscale and Continuum Scale" (Graduate course) This course covers the CALPHAD approach to phase equilibria and various mesoscale computational models for microstructure evolution.
Professor Chen teaches both undergraduate and graduate courses on thermodynamics, kinetics and phase transformations, as well as on applications of computer simulation and modeling in materials science.
